Bio

Artist Bio

Yang is a Chinese digital artist and 3D modeler, and a graduate of the Bachelor of Fine Arts program at the University of Minnesota. His practice combines traditional Chinese cultural references with contemporary digital art, 3D modeling, and hands-on fabrication processes.

Working across 3D modeling, digital sculpting, photography, digital painting, sculpture, and physical prototyping, Yang is especially interested in the relationship between virtual design and material production. He has experience with digital fabrication tools and techniques including laser cutting, CNC machining, 3D printing, model-making, and other studio-based fabrication processes. These skills allow him to translate digital concepts into physical objects, installations, and experimental forms.

Yang’s work explores how traditional Chinese visual culture, historical imagery, and symbolic forms can be reinterpreted through modern technology. By combining digital modeling with fabrication methods, he seeks to create works that connect cultural memory with contemporary artistic innovation. His practice reflects a continuing curiosity toward emerging technologies and their potential to expand the future of art-making.

Statement

My name is Yang, and I am a digital artist and 3D modeler who earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Minnesota. My artistic practice is centered on the relationship between Chinese traditional culture, digital technology, and physical fabrication. I am interested in how historical images, symbols, materials, and cultural memories can be reinterpreted through contemporary tools such as 3D modeling, digital sculpting, laser cutting, CNC machining, and 3D printing.

My inspiration comes from a deep appreciation of Chinese traditional art and visual culture, including landscape painting, calligraphy, architectural forms, ornamentation, mythology, and symbolic patterns. These traditions are not only cultural references in my work, but also systems of structure, rhythm, space, and meaning. Through digital modeling and fabrication, I explore how these traditional forms can be reconstructed, transformed, and brought into dialogue with contemporary visual language.

Rather than treating technology only as a production tool, I see it as a way of thinking and making. 3D modeling allows me to build forms that move between imagination and structure, while fabrication processes such as laser cutting, CNC machining, and 3D printing allow my digital ideas to become physical objects. This movement between the virtual and the material is central to my practice. It allows me to test scale, texture, surface, and construction, and to create works that exist between sculpture, design, installation, and digital art.

In an era of rapid technological development, I believe artists have the responsibility to explore new methods of expression while remaining connected to cultural memory. My work is both a tribute to Chinese traditional culture and an investigation into the future of digital art and fabrication. By combining traditional aesthetics with modern technology, I hope to create artworks that carry historical depth while also reflecting the possibilities of contemporary making.

Through continuous experimentation, I aim to build a bridge between art, culture, and technology. My goal is to invite viewers to experience Chinese traditional culture through new forms, materials, and processes, while also showing how digital fabrication can expand the possibilities of artistic creation.
